Eligibility for Participation in TIDE Courses. TIDE course participation is limited to individuals who hold valid Illinois teaching certificates. Priority enrollment is given to teachers working or living in DuPage County.
Course Credit. Courses offered via our university partnerships with Aurora University, Benedictine University and National-Lewis University produce semester hours of graduate school credit. At the discretion of the university partner, credits earned may be applied to other university graduate programs. (Check with the partner university for details.) Course work completed is documented on university partner official transcripts of academic performance. Seminars, workshops and conferences approved by the Illinois State Board of Education are offered for Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDUs). (One semester hour = 15 CPDUs)
School District Acceptance of Course Credit. School district acceptance of course credit is at the discretion of the local school district. In most cases, advanced school district administrative approval is required for TIDE coursework to apply to teacher salary lane advancement. (Check with your Human Resources administrator for additional information.) The hours of classroom study and rigor of each course are defined by university standards and TIDE program policy. In general, 15 hours of classroom study are required for each semester hour of credit.
TIDE Course Calendar. Course sections continue to be “open” for teacher enrollment up to the first scheduled day of class. Teachers are officially enrolled when registration is complete and a confirmation notice is sent via e-mail. Normally, the TIDE Course Catalog is published one month prior to the start of the earliest scheduled course. A typical TIDE class session for three graduate credits would require 10 class sessions of 4.5 hours each.

Current tuition rates for Aurora and Benedictine Universities is $175 per semester credit; e.g., a three-credit course would have a tuition cost of $525.00. Tuition rates vary with the course at National-Louis University. Tuition rates are printed in the TIDE Course Catalog.
Course Textbooks. In most courses, textbooks are required at the student’s expense at bookstores or on-line vendors. The TIDE Course Catalog will identify required textbooks and any additional fees.
Course Material Fees. Course materials fees are charged for classroom instructional materials depending on the nature of the course. Students should bring a personal check to the first class session for payment of course material fees.
Payments and Refunds. Visa or Master Card credit card payment is preferred. However, if you are paying by personal check, make the check payable to TIDE. Mail tuition payment to TIDE at the Center for Professional Learning, 1519 South Grace Street, Lombard, IL 60148. Payment is due within five (5) days of registration or the registration is cancelled. All payments are processed in the order they are received. (A $20.00 fee is charged by TIDE for any checks returned for insufficient funds.) A confirmation e-mail is sent when registration is complete and the class section is scheduled. A cancellation e-mail is sent when a class section is canceled due to low enrollment.
- Full refunds are made when enrollment is not sufficient to offer the course or if the class if filled and no alternative course has been selected.
- If you cannot be enrolled in a full course, your name will be placed on a waiting list. You will be contacted via e-mail.
- If you cannot be enrolled in a course before the first class section meeting, you will be issued a refund. As an alternative to a refund, you may also enroll in an open TIDE class section.
- A refund of registration tuition and fees, less a $20.00 process fee, will be made if notice of withdrawal is received by TIDE before the class begins. No refund is made after the first day of class.
- Students who drop or withdraw from a course after the first day of classes must contact the TIDE office in writing to provide notice of withdrawal in order to avoid a failing grade from the partner university.
