Hispanic Parental Involvement Curricular and Training Program©
An idea whose time has come...
"Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come." These words of Victor Hugo express what I know is true about a new program developed by the DuPage Regional Office of Education - it is called, Navigating the American Educational System.
Navigating the American Educational System is an idea at the intersection of three realities. The realities are:
- Hispanics are the largest and fastest growing minority in the U.S.;
- Hispanic students as a group have lower proficiency and lower high school completion rates than their white counterparts; and,
- Parental involvement is a significant factor in student academic success.
As we connected these three realities, we realized that the time had come for a program to help Hispanic parents overcome language, cultural, and information barriers - to provide them with the knowledge and skills, to navigate our school systems. This website will show you how we intend to do that. Click the links to the left to find out more about this exciting program.
