DuPage County ROE and the West Suburban
Science Supervisors invited regional high
school teachers to join in a project to
raise student achievement, strengthen
curriculum, develop assessment items, and
improve Biology and Chemistry instruction. This
collaborative project consisted of a series

- Determined essential components of a first-year Biology
and Chemistry course.
- Refined essential components using feedback from school
teachers.
- Finalized essential components and align with state
standards and framework items.
- Designed curriculum-aligned assessments that monitor
achievement and inform instruction.
- Refined assessments using feedback from building
teachers and align with state standards and framework items.
- Finalized assessments to align with Illinois state
testing.
- Shared products and adjust planning for the next
curricular areas (Earth Science, Physics)
