Substitute Teaching Certificate Information
New Type 39 Substitute Certificates for 2010-2014 are available to be applied for at the ROE as of July 1.
If you want to substitute teach and you have never had a Type 39 or yours expired on or before June 30, 2010, you must apply for a new substitute certificate.
Type 39 Substitute Certificates cannot be renewed.

The Application Fee is $30, payable only by MONEY ORDER, certified check or cashier’s check.
In addition, there is a County Registration Fee of $20, payable by money order or personal check by mail. If applying in person, cash or visa or master card can be accepted for the County Registration Fee only.
There must be an official transcript showing a bachelor’s degree on file currently at the ROE, or one must be presented in a sealed, unopened envelope.
The ROE, at 421 N. County Farm Road in Wheaton, is open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Please arrive by 4:00 pm for processing of an application.

Teachers with valid teaching certificates can use their teaching certificates to substitute teach. They do not need to obtain a Type 39 Substitute Certificate.
